The Western

The Politics of Peril and Opportunity
March 24 – 26, 2016 – Manchester Hyatt, San Diego, California

Planning for the 2016 Meetings of the Western Political Science Association is now in its final stages. President Louis DeSipio welcomes your participation and attendance. The meetings will be held at the Manchester Hyatt Hotel in San Diego, California, Thursday, March 24, through Saturday, March 26, 2016. The theme for this year's conference is “The Politics of Peril and Opportunity."

Program Chair Julie Novkov and the Program Section Chairs have assembled a broad and inclusive program. In addition to the regular panels, there are five conferences taking place within our conference:

  • Abolitionist/Decolonial Politics
  • Asian Pacific Americans and Politics
  • Family, Care, and the State
  • Political Science in the Public Arena
  • Teaching and Learning Political Science

As in previous years, there will also be workshops on Environmental Political Theory, Feminist Theory, Interpretive Methods and Methodologies, and Latino Politics on the day before the conference (Wednesday, March 23).

Vidya Nadkarni, University of San Diego, is serving as the Local Arrangements Chair. Casey Dominguez, University of San Diego, is also on the local arrangements committee.

Special Opportunities for Research Communities

The WPSA annual meeting not only offers the opportunity for traditional research presentations and roundtable discussions, but also a place for interested groups to schedule special events and workshops. On the Wednesday right before the conference begins, there is limited space available to accommodate groups who wish to hold workshops or offer short courses. In addition, if you are part of a research community that is interested in holding a meeting in the spring, we may be able to accommodate your group by coordinating a conference within the annual conference. There were four such coordinated conferences at the April meeting in Las Vegas, all of which were highly praised by their participants. There is also the opportunity to host receptions, business meetings, and special events. Finally, individual authors are encouraged to talk with us about how to get their recently published books displayed at the 2016 meeting. For information about these opportunities, please contact Richard Clucas, WPSA Executive Director, at hprc@pdx.edu.
