Reduced Airline Rates to Hollywood Meetings
The WPSA has signed an agreement again this year with Alaska
Airlines to provide members with reduced rates for our annual
meeting. If you book your flight with Alaska Airlines or Horizon
Air, you will receive a 7% discount off the lowest published fare
(the deal excludes companion and other promotional fares). The
discount applies for travel from March 25 to April 2, 2013, to
the five nearby airports served by Alaska (Los Angeles, Orange
County, Burbank, Long Beach, and Ontario).
To receive the discount, book your tickets online at http://www.alaskaair.com/
and input the Discount Code when searching for flights. You can
also book your flight through the Alaska Airlines Group desk at
1-800-445-4435, though a $15.00 per person ticketing fee will
apply. The discount code is: ECMU180.
The deal with Alaska not only provides benefits to our members,
but is helpful to the association. For every 40 tickets our members
purchase, the WPSA receives one free ticket. So your participation
in this program will help the association’s bottom line. In addition,
if you purchase an Alaska Airline ticket to attend the conference
but do not use the code, please send a note to Richard Clucas
(hprc@pdx.edu) letting him know. Include the names of the travelers
and their ticket numbers in your note. The association can still
use your travel to the conference toward the free ticket.
As with any deal, there is some small print. If you change or
cancel your flight after ticketing, a service charge will likely
apply. The discount is available from any U.S. or Canadian city
served by Alaska Airlines or Horizon Air, excluding Hawaii and
Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.
PGI: Politics, Groups and Identities
The Western Political Science Association is pleased to announce
the publication of a new journal Politics, Groups and Identities.
This new journal will be - along with the Political Research
Quarterly -- an official journal of the association. This is
the first official journal launched by a major regional association
in over fifty years.
At the WPSA Executive Council meeting in September, the council
appointed the first editorial team to lead in the development
and publication of the journal. The team consists of Lisa García
Bedolla, University of California, Berkeley; Rosalee Clawson,
Purdue; Ange-Marie Hancock, USC; Kerry Haynie, Duke; James McCann,
Purdue; Eric Waltenburg, Purdue; and Laurel Weldon, Purdue. Lead
editorship for the journal will rotate among the four Purdue scholars,
with Rosalee Clawson serving as the first editor. Purdue University
is providing generous support for the editorial team in helping
to get the journal off the ground.
PGI is to be launched in January 2013 and will concern questions
and issues of identity politics. Questions of minority rights
and minority identities are increasingly prominent both in the
academy and the wider world. PGI will offer a new platform for
work that focuses on the politics of social identity and religious,
gender, ethnic and racial minority groups to which scholars in
a range of sub-fields can submit articles -- theory, American
politics, comparative politics, and international relations.
The new journal will be more than simply a new home for scholarship-it
will also become an important vehicle for developing scholarship
on the topic. It will encourage the search for overlapping themes
and arguments and help to develop a comparative literature on
these topics both across fields and, conceivably, across the social
sciences.
